Known Website Issues and solutions

Issue:

Can not login to Members’ Area

Problem:

Cookies not enabled or blocked

Solution:

• Enable cookies in the browser for the local scout domains scoutswa.com.au & scouts.org.au

• Allow cookies from scout domains in antivirus software

• Allow cookies from scout domains in malware software

• Allow cookies from scout domains in spyware software

• Reduce the security setting in Internet Explorer (NOTE: the default settings nearly always work!)

This can also be browser dependent (ie. Works in one browser not another)

To date, this problem has been seen only on a local area network with a Novell network file service. It appears to only affect Firefox browsers.

Solution:

• Use Internet Explorer browser

Issue:

Open a PDF file in another window and get a “page not found” error!

Problem:

This appears to be a corrupted link

Solution:

• Get the link fixed – notify Branch Office of the link in question

• Right click the link and use “save as” option from the menu

• Download the PDF file to the local computer and open it locally in a PDF reader

• Ask Branch Office to email you the document in question

Issue:

Left or Right click on a link and light blue bar appears and cannot open or download linked file

Problem:

Identified as a web design issue and affects only older versions of browsers

Solution:

•Upgrade to the latest version of browser

• (NOTE:This issue has now been fixed)

Issue:

Click on a link and nothing happens

Problem:

Link is probably trying to open in a new window

Solution:

Enable popup windows for the scout domains (Note: this is not a security risk)

Issue:

A flashing cursor or cursor artifact appearing where you would not expect one on a web page - It's a minor annoyance, sure, but it's an annoyance nonetheless

Problem:

I'm not sure why it shows up, but it seems to be random. It appears to only affect Mozilla based browsers.

Solution:

Press F7 to disable caret blinking [flashing cursor] [Note: F7 also enables the blinking, it toggles between the two states]
